When my daughter, Sandra, turned 16, I started noticing a change in her. Certain things just weren’t adding up. As time went on, her behavior would be out of control, combative and very clingy. I was still in denial that anything was happening. She moved out of the house two weeks before graduating high school after I told her if she didn’t like the way things were run at our house, she could leave. She jumped on that. I never expected it.
I attended her graduation not knowing if she would even be there. I had no idea where she was living. She did attend and graduated. Eventually I got a call no parent ever wants: “We have your daughter in custody for D.U.I.” She spent one night in jail. Within 30 days there was another call reporting the same thing. This time she had to spend 90 days in jail. By the grace of God she only harmed herself. No other vehicles involved.
Over time her addiction took a downward spiral and she used more than just alcohol. Now it was pain pills and last drug of choice was METH. Life went on and one day out of the blue Sandra called me with nothing much to say. I simply told her, “Sandra, I don’t know what you’re going to do with your life. You need to figure it out because one day I won’t be on this earth anymore.”
Within a very short time, I received the call every parent wants, a phone call asking for help. After that phone call she immediately went into detox and into Teen Challenge. Once in Teen Challenge, I finally breathed a sigh of relief, yet felt a little empty inside and broke down. It was a good thing, yet I was battling with so many emotions myself and it just hit all at once.
After six weeks I had my first visit with Sandra. What a wonderful day. We just held each other and cried. (I’m crying now.) It’s a day I’ll never forget. The transformation that had taken place was definitely an answer to my prayers.
Each month when I visited Sandra, I could see more and more improvement. Transformation was taking place in Sandra’s life, but also in my life as well. I now have a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. It is so awesome to be able to have trust and faith again in my daughter. It is truly a miracle and a blessing to see my daughter who was once so lost in addiction, now made brand new!Find Hope Now!
